Charles Beare retires from his role as a director of J & A Beare Ltd but continues to act for the company as consultant on matters relating to expertise and certification.

Charles Beare has retired from his role as a Director of J and A Beare Ltd this week, having been in the business since January 1958. He feels in much better health now than for several years, and intends to continue as a consultant to the Company on matters relating to the authenticity of instruments, visiting 30 Queen Anne Street when necessary.  His contact and Personal Assistant at our premises is Katharine Oakeshott, who has been in that role with us for almost nine years, but there are other projects such as the completion of a book on the Venetian violin and lute makers, and possibly even some memoirs, to which he would like to devote much of his time from now on. Peter Beare is now spending more of his time making instruments, which has been his lifelong passion and has now retired as director, as has Frances Gillham. The company continues to be run by directors Simon Morris and Steven Smith with the collaboration of Charles Beare as expert consultant.
