10th Anniversary of Beare's International Violin Society takes place

Weekend celebration held at Herrenchiemsee in Germany

This July, J & A Beare marked the tenth anniversary of the Beare’s International Violin Society with a weekend-long celebratory event at Herrenchiemsee in Germany.

Since its founding in 2010, the project has been a vital gateway for rising-star artists to access truly excellent instruments. The Society links generous prospective patrons with musicians in need of instruments – Beare’s unique close relationships to both owners and artists allows the company to facilitate the deep personal connections needed for the successful long-term loan of a fine violin, viola or cello. Over the years, leading artists including Janine Jansen, Nigel Kennedy, and Sheku Kanneh-Mason have been recipients of the scheme, while in the summer of 2022 alone, artists Guy Johnston, Inmo Yang, and Alexandra Tirsu and more have all received instruments through the Society’s work.

This event, delayed by two years through Covid, celebrated a decade’s worth of music making in the glorious mountain surroundings of Herrenchiemsee in Germany. For Society patrons the occasion marked a chance to reflect on the achievements of the project to date – including the lasting memories of fantastic performances from previous artists – and to look to the future, with many new rising stars in the world of classical music eager to show their prowess on fine instruments.

Guests enjoyed a wonderful recital from current Society artist Lir Vaginsky, who played Schubert and Sarasate. At 19 years old, the Israeli violinist has already proven herself on many of the world’s biggest international stages while performing on the 1745 Guadagnini she has been loaned through the Beare’s International Violin Society.

Closing the event, patrons were invited to a concert at the Herrenchiemsee Festspiele, an acclaimed summer classical music festival taking place in the ornate palace on the Herreninsel in Lake Chiemsee. In a performance praised for its “gripping cosmos of sound” (OVB News), soloist So-Ock Kim, Artistic Coordinator of the Beare’s International Violin Society, played Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto alongside the Orchester der KlangVerwaltung and their conductor Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, himself a previous Society artist.

The Beare’s International Violin Society is always open to new artists, and warmly welcomes new prospective patrons as it enters a new decade of work. To enquire about becoming a patron, please get in touch with us at violins@beares.com.
