Quatuor Ébène

Our longstanding Beare’s International Violin Society artists in the Quatuor Ébène have returned to jazz in their latest release, Milestones. The fantastic album is their last with outgoing cellist Raphaël Merlin, who is moving on to other exciting projects.

Pierre Colombet plays on the 1717 ‘Piatti’ Stradivari, loaned by a generous donor through the Society, while on the album, Gabriel Le Magadure played a c.1728-3o Guarneri del Gesù violin.

New film role for cellist

Sophie Kauer

Cellist Sophie Kauer won acclaim in last year’s TÁR, the Oscar-winning film that saw her breakout role playing opposite Cate Blanchett’s titular character. Sophie has been cast in a new indie film, All Five Eyes, which will explore themes of identity and sisterhood in a small village in 1967 England. Directed by Jaclyn Bethany, the cast includes Honor Swinton Byrne and Greta Bellamacina.

Sophie plays on a Goffriller cello loaned to her through the Beare’s International Violin Society.

Sitkovetsky Trio

In their latest release, the Sitkovetsky Trio complete their exploration of Beethoven’s piano trios. This third volume in the series contains his Trio in E flat, Op. 1, and his ‘Ghost‘ Trio, Op. 70, as well as Schöne Minka, arranged for trio by cellist Isang Enders.

Alexander Sitkovetsky plays on the 1679 ‘Parera’ Stradivari violin, while Isang Enders plays on a c.1717-20 Tononi cello. Both are loaned their instruments by generous sponsors through the Beare’s International Violin Society.
